Episode #29 – Are you being too hard on yourself?

As we near the end of another school year a lot of women start to assess themselves at the same time their children are being assessed. And while this can be a great practice, sometimes it makes us too hard on ourselves.

Most women are ALREADY too hard on themselves. Feeling stuck in the cycle of not doing anything well enough kickstarts a constant cycle of guilt, or even shame, for not living up to a standard someone else has set, or we have set for ourselves. We become our own worst critic.

So today I want to dig into three of the most common thought patterns many high achieving women get into that may be causing you pain – and also the danger of staying there and not knowing how to move through this pattern to a better place.

Here Are The Highlights:

  • The flawed thought pattern holding many women back from achieving more ([5:00])
  • How not to repeat the same mistakes over and over again ([8:20])
  • How to quickly redirect and train your brain to focus on problem-solving ([11:45])

Episode #28: The Mothers Day Card I Hope You’ll Get

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching!

This is the day we celebrate with flowers and cards and breakfast in bed…

So here’s a question for you…what message would you like to find in your Mother’s Day card? Do the card companies have your number? Or are their messages off track for the kind of mom you aspire to be?

Today I’m sharing my thoughts on the two extremes of motherhood that are commonly represented in the card aisle – and giving you permission to bust out of that mold.

Here Are The Highlights:

  • The traditional ‘hardworking’ historical view of motherhood ([3:00])
  • A contemporary look at modern motherhood ([4:00])
  • Building your legacy through consistent, daily action ([5:10])

Episode #27 – Is Entrepreneurship the Holy Grail for working mothers?

Our culture has embraced entrepreneurship in a truly positive way. Back in the 90’s, entrepreneurship wasn’t a popular career path – unless your parents were entrepreneurial and you were stepping into their family business.

Now, it seems the idea of starting your own business is the best way to establish balance, flexibility, and freedom between work and family.

But as you’re going to discover today, entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone.

Today, we’re talking about entrepreneurship and specifically how it relates to working mothers. I want to paint a realistic picture, and show you three things that make entrepreneurship an incredibly attractive path for many working moms…and a big mistake for others.

Here Are The Highlights:

  • Three things you have full control over as an entrepreneur ([6:40])
  • Your connection to purpose and why your work matters ([8:30])
  • Proceed with caution: The three ‘deal breakers’ of entrepreneurship ([10:30])
  • Should YOU be an entrepreneur? ([14:45])

Episode #26 – Winning the Modern Mom Trifecta (Work, Family, Self)

In life, there are three arenas in which all high achieving women feel compelled to compete, and it’s never enough to be good at just one of them. We hold ourselves to a high standard – we want to excel in ALL of them, and more often than not, this becomes a frustrating game of whack-a-mole.

Today I want to break down the Modern Mom Trifecta and show you a way to balance these seemingly competing priorities to create a dynamic sense of stability and fulfillment.

Here Are The Highlights:

  • The ‘trifecta’ for high achieving modern moms ([2:00])
  • Chasing the traditional version of success and why it could be holding you back ([4:35])
  • Striking a healthy balance between business and family ([7:30])
  • Self-Care: Why YOU should always come first ([9:50])

Episode #25 – Why would anyone pay for mentorship?

Wherever you are in your life, what are you trying to attain or achieve? What does the next level look like, both personally and professionally? Would you be more likely to get there faster (and with far less friction) if you had guidance from a mentor?

Today I want to share the three types of mentors that you can seek guidance from at different times in your life. This episode is going to expand your collective definition of the word ‘mentorship’ as well as challenge your thinking about what it could do for your life and the progress it could help you make.

Here Are The Highlights:

  • The critical characteristics of a great mentor ([5:25])
  • One common thing blocking women from getting where they want to be ([7:40])
  • How to achieve your goals much faster with far less friction ([8:40])
  • Stop with your narrow-minded thinking ([10:00])
  • The most typical definition of a mentor – and where it begins and ends for most ([10:40])
  • What mentorship is most definitely NOT ([12:15])

Finding a great mentor can make the difference between years of trial and error and going the ‘hard way’ vs. easily avoiding costly mistakes along your journey.
